Abstract:Objective: To find drug-drug interactions of clinical value and provide evidence-based suggestions and idea of pharmaceutical care for clinical pharmacists majored in the endocrinology pharmacy through analysis of combinational drug use in outpatients with diabetes mellitus in the endocrinology department of Beijing Shijitan Hospital in 2016. Methods: The prescriptions prescribed by outpatient clinicians in the endocrinology department of our hospital in 2016 were randomly extracted, 1 day a week, evenly distributed from Monday to Sunday, 48 days altogether. The basic information of the patients, classifications of drugs, indications, and frequencies of drug use were arranged, and the combinations of drugs with potential interactions were summarized and analyzed. Results: The top ten antidiabetic agents, combinationally-used drugs, and complications were identified, and nine groups of combinational use of drugs with potential risks were found concerning antidiabetic, antihypertensive, and lipid-lowering drugs. Conclusion: Clinical pharmacists could provide clinical interventions and evidence-based pharmaceutical suggestions on drugs with narrow therapeutic window and drugs which may influence liver enzymes metabolism, influence the effects of other drugs, and enhance adverse drug reactions. This method is hopeful to help clinical pharmacists majored in the endocrinology pharmacy in other hospitals to carry out pharmaceutical care with pertinence and promote rational use of drugs.
