Investigation and analysis of medication usage in Chinese Patent Medicine instructions

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the annotation status of medication usage in Chinese Patent Medicine instructions, and to provide reference for clinical rational use of drugs. Methods:Collect the top-selling 325 Chinese Patent Medicine instructions in Beijing, to summarize and analyze the number of specific instructions, such as special administration time, pediatric dosage, require medicinal usher, require special preconditioning and non-defined usage instructions. Results: Of the 325 drug instructions, 113 drugs has special medication usage, accounting for 34.77% of all drugs. 23 of them has specific pediatric dosage, accounting for 7.08%. Of all 267 oral preparations, 21 (7.87%) has defined administration time. Of 27 external preparations, 12 (44.44%) don’t have specific medication usage. Conclusion: Chinese Patent Medicine instructions need further improvement, the pharmacists should pay more attention at summarizing and medication guidance, to ensure the safety and efficacy of drug use.
